People were making pictures long before anyone wrote a word. Some of those pictures survive, deep in caves and under rock overhangs on five continents, and some are more than 50,000 years old.

Here you can stand in front of them with a light in your hand. Then step back and see what repeats across the world: the hand, the animal, the sign. Every note says whether it is known, argued over, or simply not known.
